What did you learn while making your film?

While making this film, I learned how to better and more interesting ways to frame my shots.  Before doing this film, I would occasionally get a few shots that I was proud of, but since this film forced me to focus on making interesting frames that told a story, I approached each shot with a much different lens (no pun intended).  As a result, I ended up producing a lot more shots that I was proud of.

What did you learn from your critique?

One thing that I think i really need to work on based on the critiques that I got was to have more variety in the types of shots that I use.  In the future, I will use this to work more towards ingraining more story elements into my cinematography. Something that apparently did work was how I managed to make the specific people in the story become the theme of the film, which in turn helped put the viewer in the perspective of one of the friends going on this cross-town "adventure".

What was your process of thematic development?

My original idea for my theme was to have a series of shots that looked aesthetically pleasing together to create a semi-cohesive story.  What ended up happening was that I got together with three of my friends and I happened to bring my camera.  As a result, all of my shots revolved around how my friends were experiencing the afternoon and evening, as opposed to a collection of landscape shots.  Additionally, the music that I used was a recording that I made a little while ago while improvising on the piano.  When put together, the result ending up being a pretty peaceful and serine short film.
