#1 - Pre-Project Post!
It's finally here! I'm coming up on my first few days of working with DOBAMA, and I couldn't be more excited! As I roll into this project, I'm gonna talk a bit about why I'm doing it.
I was inspired to do this as a project for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that I am interested in the performing arts, and I live literally five minutes from DOBAMA, which makes this the most readily accessible venue for me to conduct a project. I have been involved in theater since freshman year, and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. Last year I got the opportunity to perform in the Connor Palace Theater with HPS for the Dazzle Awards, and it was by far one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. For my project, I decided to put those two experiences together and work with a local professional theater, which I have never done before. I am hoping that this project will help me learn two things: how the theater community on the professional level compares to that of the amateur level, as well as how to get into the professional world of theater and what it takes to do make professional-level art. Additionally, the entire time I will be working to answer my essential question of "to what degree does live theater bring people together" comparing my experience in HPS to the experiences of people involved in DOBAMA's productions.
I will be working with Nathan Motta (the Artistic Director), Megan Mingus (the Resident Stage Manager), Carrie Williams (the Education Associate), and Anne Bakan (Assistant Managing Director), helping behind the scenes where I can and shadowing the everyday tasks of the theater's leaders.
I am looking forward to diving into this project.
